Airplanes
Matheny developed an interest in gliding and eventually piloting small aircraft. Here, these interests led him to enlist, from his connections in the Aerospace Industry, illustrators to create airplane themed artworks.

Ferdinand Roten Galleries Selected Prints Show
Established in 1932, and, at the time, one of the largest American print dealers, Ferdinand Rotten Galleries of Baltimore, MD sent a representative to display and sell original prints by Picasso, Chagall and more. Another sale would also occur in May of 1967

Mead Library of Ideas Show
The Mead Library of Ideas was a gallery created by the Mead Paper company to hold exhibitions showcasing the best in contemporary graphic design. This touring exhibition would have been similar to the Art Directors Club of San Diego Show from 1962.

Norma McGee – Paintings
Norma McGee was active in the San Diego Art scene of the time. A San Diego Art Guild Member and previous winner of SWC's 1964 Purchase Award Show here presented with a solo exhibition of her abstract drawings and paintings.

"Pomeroy's Williams"
Guy Williams Paintings
from the collection of Walter Pomeroy
Local art collector and General Dynamics computer programer, Walter Pomeroy supported and befriended many up and coming San Diego area artists, including eclectic artist Guy Williams. Matheny presented a number of Williams' abstract paintings from Pomeroy's collection.

Annual Invitational Sculpture Purchase Award Exhibit
Mere months before famed LACMA curator, Maurice Tuchman would embark on organizing his influential Art & Technoloy Program at that museum, he was a juror, selecting prize winners, from the 33 artists showing work in the first all sculpture Purchase Award Show, displayed in the SWC Library.
Dennis Oppenheim, Stephan von-Huene, and Peter Voulkus
Maurice Tuchman delivered a lecture on the provocative artworks he curated at a LACMA exhibition of artist Ed Kienholz.
Resident sculptor and Faculty member John Dewitt Clark wrote the exhibition essay about the state of sculpture at the time.
May 2 -27, 1966
Two Artist-Craftsmen
This exhibition featured two local Allied Craftsmen of San Diego members, both of whom had previously shown at the gallery.
David Stewart was an inspiringly independent San Diego potter who was able to make his living off of selling his pottery and ceramic sculptures.
Arline Fisch is a highly influential San Diego artist who helped revitalize jewelry as an art form. For this exhibition she presented her artful jewelry and weavings.

Student Show
The debate over the art displayed in the spaces outside of the Art Gallery (such as the Student Union foyer) led to the formation of an Art & Architecture Committee to provide required approval, which eventually was only given for Student Shows

Student Editorial Complaints
""We are simply saying that the strongest odor of unwashed bodies emanates from the art department"
Two students write an editorial piece in the school newspaper criticizing the Art students, the Art Department and the artworks displayed. The editorial prompted a Letter to the Editor of The Star News by then student and future Faculty member Michael Schnorr.
